Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag, Budgam & Awantipora and seized a significant quantity of contraband substances along with cash ₹10,450 in three separate operations, a police spokesperson informed Sunday.
He said at Danter in Anantnag, three drug peddlers — identified as Shabir Qayoom of Cheeni Chowk, Zahid Manzoor of Hassnpora Bagh, Faizan Lone of Mir-Danter were arrested while one accused, Gowher Reshi of Danter, managed to flee. During the search, 3.178 kgs of Ganja (marijuana)-like substance and cash ₹10,450 were recovered from their possession.
At Marhama Crossing two persons — Mohammad Tufail Hajam and Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday, both residents of Badipora Chadoora – were arrested and 3.29 grams of brown sugar-like substance and 7.88 grams of cannabis-like substance were recovered from them.
At Doodhnad Waghama, police arrested Javaid Ahmad Mantoo of Waghama Bijbehara after 468 grams of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.
In Budgam, police arrested Mohammad Sahil Sheikh of Kolkata, Murshidabad, presently residing at Chadoora. During the search, approximately 4.96 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
In Awantipora, one Ashiq Hussain Bhat of Ratsuna Tral was arrested after 50 grams of cannabis and 125 grams of cannabis powder-like substance were recovered from his possession, police said.
Cases have been registered and investigations initiated against all these arrestees.
