Srinagar: Police arrested five drug peddlers in multiple operations in Anantnag and Sopore, and recovered a “significant quantity” of contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.
He said at Chatergul Chowk in Anantnag, one kg of cannabis powder and 100 grams of cannabis balls were recovered from one Farooq Ahmad Khan of Poshnari, who is a government employee working in Vailoo court.
Police said 2.590 kgs of crushed cannabis-like substance (Bhang Bhoosa) was recovered during a raid at the residence of Salman Saleem Rather of Diyaroo.
At Bumzoo KP Road near Foot Bridge Nambal, police arrested Aaqib Ahmad Shah of Shaksaz Mohalla Seer Hamdan after three kgs of grinded cannabis leaves, flowers and seeds were recovered from him.
A raid at the residence of Irfan Gani Kandroo of Adder Bijbehara, yielded 5.03 kgs of cannabis powder-like substance, following which he was arrested.
In Sopore, police arrested Shahid Ahmad Mir of Mirpora Rohama, Rafiabad at Tarbal Rohama, after cannabis-like substance was recovered from him.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, spokesperson said.
