Transport Commissioner holds stakeholders meet

Emphasizes enhanced coordination with vehicle dealers

JAMMU: Transport Commissioner, Vishesh Mahajan, today chaired a meeting with the transport associations, vehicle dealers and other key stakeholders to review critical issues and enhance the overall functioning of the Transport Department across the Union Territory.

During the meeting, the Transport Commissioner also held an interactive session with the representatives of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), discussing their concerns and exploring ways to further improve coordination between the department and the vehicle dealers.

Detailed deliberations were held on a range of important matters, including promotion of alternate energy vehicles in line with evolving government policies. The issue of customers showing interest in selling off freshly purchased vehicles and concerns regarding the fees charged in such cases were also discussed.

The dealers raised concerns about the increasing trend of second-hand vehicles being brought from other states and sold within the Union Territory.

The Commissioner stressed the need for strict verification and proper documentation in such transactions to ensure transparency and prevent irregularities.

The role of automobile dealers in promoting road safety through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives was also highlighted.

The Commissioner urged all the stakeholders to take proactive steps in spreading awareness about responsible driving practices and road safety measures.

Emphasizing adherence to all norms while selling the vehicles, the Commissioner directed the dealers to strictly follow the provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) and ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Anju Gupta, Joint Commissioner Vikas Anand, RTO Kashmir Qazi Irfan, RTO Jammu S Jasmeet Singh and all ARTOs, who shared their inputs to further improve road safety and departmental performance across the Union Territory.

The meeting was also attended by Sanjay Agarwal, President FADA along with other members.
