Jammu: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic on Monday following a landslide due to incessant rainfall in the area, officials said, adding that clearance operations underway.
The Traffic Police, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the highway is blocked between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote in Ramban district, halting vehicular movement on the strategic route connecting Jammu and Srinagar.
“No vehicular movement shall be allowed from Jammu towards Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar, and vice versa, until the road is fully restored,” an official said.
He said the men and machinery have been deployed to clear debris and restore traffic, but continuous stone slides in the affected stretch are slowing down the operation.
Commuters have been advised to avoid travel on the highway and plan their journeys accordingly until further updates—(KNO)
