Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Sunday criticised PDP MLA Waheed Para over his remarks against Cabinet Minister Sakina Masood Itoo and demanded that action be taken against him in the Assembly.
In separate statements issued by Provincial Presidents Showkat Ahmad Mir and Rattan Lal Gupta, the party termed Para’s remarks against the senior NC leader and minister as “misogynistic” and “unparliamentary”.
The NC leaders said the comments made against Sakina Itoo were inappropriate and unbecoming of a legislator.
They accused the PDP MLA of targeting a senior woman politician instead of participating in meaningful debate on public issues.
The party demanded that Waheed Para be suspended from the House during the next Assembly session and urged the Speaker to take cognisance of the matter.
“The House is meant for debate, policy and public welfare, not for personal attacks,” the leaders said.
The National Conference said that such conduct should not be tolerated in public life and stressed the need for maintaining decorum and respect in the legislature.
