Srinagar: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district issued a medium-intensity avalanche warning on Thursday, asking people to remain highly vigilant.
A medium-intensity avalanche is likely to occur above an altitude of 2,400 metres in the central Kashmir district in the next 24 hours, officials said.
“In view of the danger, the general public is hereby advised to remain highly vigilant,” they said.
The district administration has also issued an advisory, strictly barring people from venturing into avalanche-prone areas, including slopes, hilly terrains and higher reaches.
Residents, tourists and nomadic communities are requested to follow official advisories and cooperate with the administration in the interest of public safety, the officials said.
Seven people, including two women and a child, were killed, while five others were injured after multiple avalanches hit the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal on March 27. (PTI)
