Srinagar: The Anti Corruption Bureau on Sunday claimed to have arrested a Special police Officer in Anantnag while accepting a bribe of ₹18000.
Sharing details, ACB said that a police party had taken away the documents of a load-carrier on March 26, and instructed the driver to report at Police Station Larnoo on the next day.
At the police station, an SPO identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat demanded an amount of ₹30000 for release of documents, but later the deal was finally settled on ₹18000.
On receipt of a complaint about it, ACB conducted a discreet verification which confirmed the demand. A formal case was registered at Police Station ACB Anantnag, and a trap team constituted, which caught the SPO Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat (No 176/SPO, son of Khazir Mohammad Bhat of Batpora Larnoo Kokernag Anantnag) red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe.
Bhat was arrested on the spot and the bribe amount was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Subsequently, searches of residential houses of the accused police official was carried out. Further investigation of the case is going on, ACB said.
