  Dr Farooq expresses grief on Zojila avalanche deaths

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, Saturday, expressed profound sorrow and anguish over the tragic avalanche that struck the Srinagar-Leh highway near Zojila Pass, resulting in the loss of precious lives and injuries to several others.

In his condolence message, Dr. Farooq said that the news of the devastating snow slide, which buried passenger vehicles and claimed at least seven lives, has deeply saddened him. He termed the incident as a “heart-wrenching tragedy” and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

“I am deeply pained by the loss of lives in this unfortunate incident. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for strength and patience for them during this difficult time,” he said. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident and urged the concerned authorities to ensure that they receive the best possible medical care.

He further called upon the administration to expedite rescue and relief operations and take all necessary measures to safeguard travellers on vulnerable routes, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Dr. Farooq emphasised the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness and response mechanisms in high-risk areas to prevent such tragedies in the future.
