Jammu: The administration has sought information and evidence from the public after the authorities ordered a magisterial inquiry into an encounter in the Ramnagar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district last month.

Two Pakistani terrorists, including a top commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were killed in the encounter on February 3 after they were trapped inside a cave in the Joffer area of the district, officials said.

“It is hereby notified for the information of the general public that any person having knowledge, information, or any evidence (oral or documentary) regarding the identity, background, or activities of the persons encountered in the said incident are hereby requested to appear before the undersigned at the office at Ramnagar up to March 31,” Swati Sheemar, Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM), Ramnagar, said in a public notice.

She said people should come forward and submit their statements or relevant material for consideration to assist the inquiry, adding that the identities of the informants would be kept confidential.

The Udhampur district magistrate on February 23 ordered a probe into the incident that occurred on February 3 at Lehar village within the Ramnagar police station limits, led by SDM Sheemar as the inquiry officer.

In the encounter, security forces gunned down two terrorists identified as Aslam alias Mavju alias Badshah, and Abu Oskasha alias Zubair, both residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, officials said.
