JK Men’s Hockey Championship Day 3: Quarterfinal line-up finalised after dominant wins

Jammu: The Hockey J&K UT Men’s Championship continued with high intensity on Day 3 at the KK Hakku Hockey Stadium, Jammu, as the quarterfinal line-up was finalised following a series of emphatic victories.

The tournament, organised by Hockey Jammu and Kashmir, resumed after a gap of three years and began on March 24 with participation of 17 teams from across the Union Territory.

Dr. Ajay Sharma, JKPS, SP Jammu South, was the chief guest for the day and was introduced to the players of J&K Police and Pulwama teams by Rajeev Sharma, Patron-in-Chief and sports promoter. Addressing the players, he expressed his desire to see J&K players represent the Indian team and urged them to set clear goals and work hard to achieve them. He also quoted revolutionary Bhagat Singh, encouraging players to draw inspiration and perform with passion and commitment.

Rajeev Sharma assured all possible support to the players and urged them to participate in the championship with full zeal and determination.

Earlier, General Secretary Hockey J&K, Dr. Taran Singh, said that since taking over on May 31, 2025, the organisation has been making concerted efforts to revive hockey in J&K. He highlighted that several sub-junior and district-level tournaments have been organised, traditional clubs have been reactivated, and veteran players have been brought back to the fold. He added that J&K teams have started performing better at the national level and are preparing for upcoming sub-junior national championships at Rajgir and Ranchi.

Match Results

In the first match, J&K Police defeated Pulwama 9-0. Karanjit Singh opened the scoring in the very first minute, followed by a goal from captain Ali Mohammad Khan in the 6th minute. Arunpreet Singh scored twice (8th and 29th minutes), while Hardeep Singh added two more (27th and 47th minutes). Gagandeep Singh, Balbir Singh, and Ishtiaq Ahmad also found the net to complete the dominant win. The match was officiated by umpires Sunil Gupta and Sushil, with Chanveer Singh as scoring judge, Gargi as timing judge, Jaspreet Singh as technical officer, and Sahil Kumar as reserve umpire.

In the second match, Baramulla thrashed Kulgam 17-0 in a one-sided contest. Gursehaj Singh led the scoring with six goals, while Prabhvir Singh netted four. Karampal Singh scored twice, and Jaipal Singh also added two goals. Pardeep Singh and Tanishdeep Singh contributed one goal each. The match officials included Faizan Khan and Sahil Kumar as umpires, Jaspreet Singh as scoring judge, Chanveer Singh as timing judge, Gargi as technical officer, and Lal Khan as reserve umpire.

In the third match, Poonch defeated Ganderbal 9-0. Masoom Ahmad opened the scoring in the 6th minute and added another in the 28th minute. Captain Mukesh Kumar scored a hat-trick (47th, 55th, and 56th minutes). Abhi Sharma netted twice, while Zahid Shareef and Raveet Singh scored one goal each. The match was officiated by umpires Sushil Kumar and Lal Khan, with Jaspreet Singh as scoring judge, Gargi as timing judge, Chanveer Singh as technical officer, and Faizan Khan as reserve umpire.

Quarterfinal Fixtures

The quarterfinal matches scheduled for tomorrow are:

  • Jammu North vs Anantnag – 10:30 AM
  • J&K Police vs Baramulla – 12:00 Noon
  • Jammu West vs Kathua – 2:30 PM
  • Jammu South vs Poonch – 4:00 PM

Tournament Director P.D. Singh, along with Ajay Gupta (Manager, KK Hakku Stadium), Anil Sharma (Manager, Green Field), Mustafa Jamil (Senior Vice President), Raviraj Singh (Treasurer), Manjit Singh (Vice President), Vinod Singh, Ranvir Singh, Harjit Singh, Tejinder Singh (Secretary), Jaswinder Kour (Vice President), P.P. Singh, Janak Singh (Veteran player), Jagjit Singh (Coach), and parents of players were present on the occasion.

The championship continues to witness enthusiastic participation and marks a significant step towards reviving hockey in Jammu and Kashmir.
