Karnah: In a major relief for residents of the border area of Karnah ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Karnah–Chowkibal road has been reopened, enabling hundreds of stranded passengers to safely return to their homes after days of disruption caused by inclement weather.
The vital road link had remained closed due to continuous heavy snowfall, strong winds, poor visibility and the looming threat of avalanches, severely affecting normal life in the region. With Eid approaching, many residents had expressed concern over being unable to reunite with their families.
Officials said the restoration work was carried out under challenging conditions, with teams from the district administration, the Indian Army and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) working round the clock to clear snow and ensure safe passage.
Despite persistent snowfall and avalanche risks, the road was made operational within a short timeframe, restoring connectivity to the remote border area.
With traffic resuming, hundreds of passengers stranded for days were able to reach their homes, bringing relief to families ahead of the festival. Locals described the reopening as timely and crucial, especially in view of Eid celebrations.
Member of Legislative Assembly Karnah, Javed Ahmad Mirchal, appreciated the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved, stating that public service during difficult times remains a top priority. He termed the joint response commendable, particularly given the challenges of maintaining connectivity in a remote and border region.
Residents also expressed gratitude to the authorities, noting that prolonged closure of the road would have compounded their hardships. They voiced hope that such prompt response mechanisms would continue in the future.
Officials said the swift restoration of the road not only eased public inconvenience but also underscored the importance of coordination and preparedness in tackling weather-related disruptions in vulnerable areas.
