Pulwama: A labourer was killed and three others injured after an elevated portion of soil along with stones collapsed during an excavation in Tumchi Nowpora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday, officials said.
The incident occurred during soil excavation work when a portion of earth suddenly gave way, trapping workers under debris and stones at the site.
The deceased has been identified as Zubair Ahmed, a resident of Rajouri district, officials said.
The collapse triggered panic among workers at the site, following which locals and fellow labourers rushed to rescue the trapped persons and shifted them to a nearby medical facility.
Three other labourers sustained injuries in the incident and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their condition was stated to be critical, officials said.
Authorities said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the incident. (KNT)
