Srinagar:: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA from Pulwama, Waheed ur Rehman Para, on Thursday termed the attack on former chief minister and National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah as “highly unfortunate,” calling for an “honest and thorough” investigation into the incident.

Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), MLA Para expressed concern over the assault on the veteran leader, emphasizing the need to uncover the motives behind the attack.

“Dr Farooq Abdullah is a senior leader of Jammu and Kashmir and a prominent leader in the country. It is very unfortunate that such an incident took place,” Para said.

The PDP legislator insisted that all angles be probed. “All the reasons should be investigated. There should be a strict investigation against the people involved. If there was any fault in their security by the police, the government should also find out why such an incident took place,” he stated.

MLA Para also highlighted the complexity of the location. “It happened very close by. It was a marriage function. We don’t know what the reality is. But it should be investigated in an honest manner so that it is known—whoever did this, what their intentions and objectives were,” he added.

Para further remarked that targeting such a respected leader sets a dangerous precedent. “It is not good for any of us to attack such a senior and respected leader,” the PDP MLA added. (KNS)
