Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with the Executive Magistrate and the Food Safety Department, conducted a joint market checking drive in Kangan market of Ganderbal district to ensure fair trade practices during the holy month of Ramadhan.

During the drive, several food business establishments, including shops dealing in essential commodities, food items and other consumables, were inspected. The checking teams focused on ensuring the proper display of rate lists, maintenance of food quality standards and adherence to hygienic conditions in the establishments.

Shopkeepers and vendors were directed to comply with government regulations, maintain transparency in pricing, avoid overcharging and ensure proper sanitation and hygiene while handling food products. They were also advised to keep their premises clean and provide quality goods to the public, especially during the holy month when market activity increases significantly.

Officials warned that any violation of government norms, sale of substandard food items or overpricing would invite strict legal action as per law.

Police said such joint drives will continue in coordination with concerned departments to ensure the availability of quality essential commodities, maintain market discipline and safeguard consumer rights during Ramadhan.
