Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta has tendered his resignation, sources said on Thursday.
Gupta submitted his resignation on Thursday evening, they said, adding that the reasons behind the move were not immediately known.
However, in the evening, a notification issued by the President of India said that Gupta has been appointed as Governor Himachal Pradesh.
Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lt. Governor of Delhi has been appointed as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.
He took oath as the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory on July 18, 2025.
Gupta, a senior BJP leader, had previously served in various organisational and legislative roles in Jammu and Kashmir before being appointed to the constitutional post in Ladakh.
Meanwhile, has made the following appointments of Governors and Lt Governors:
Shiv Pratap Shukla, Governor of Himachal Pradesh has been appointed as Governor of Telangana while as Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Telangana has been appointed as Governor of Maharashtra.
Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed as Governor of Nagaland; Lt. General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain. as Governor of Bihar, and R.N. Ravi, Governor of Tamil Nadu has been appointed as Governor West Bengal.
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Kerala will discharge the functions of Governor of Tamil Nadu, the notification said, adding, Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as Lt. Governor of Delhi.
