Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference on Wednesday demanded the immediate lifting of restrictions imposed on the social media accounts of reputed media organizations, the withdrawal of various cases registered yesterday and the immediate release of the arrested youth.

The party’s State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar in a statement said that the media is a fundamental pillar of any democratic society and curbing it is contrary to democratic values and freedom of expression. He stated that imposing restrictions on social media platforms not only affects the journalistic community but also deprives the public of their right to information.

Imran further demanded that the cases registered yesterday against various individuals and institutions be withdrawn immediately as such actions create anxiety and unrest among the public. He added that the arrested youth should be released without delay to prevent further escalation of the situation.

He emphasized that solutions to issues lie not in force or restrictions, but in dialogue, constitutional processes, and the strengthening of democratic traditions. He appealed to the concerned authorities to act responsibly and take immediate positive steps in the public interest.
