Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Provincial President (Kashmir) Showkat Mir Wednesday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic and heartbreaking developments in Iran that have deeply shaken the conscience of people across the world.

In a statement Showkat Ahmad Mir said that the pain and anguish being felt in Kashmir is a reflection of the deep spiritual, cultural and emotional bonds that people here share with the people of Iran. “The tragic unfoldings in Iran have left our hearts heavy. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families and pray for peace and strength for them during this unimaginably difficult time,” he said.

However, Mir urged the people of Kashmir to exhibit utmost restraint, patience and maturity while expressing their grief. He appealed to the public to ensure that mourning and solidarity are demonstrated in a peaceful, dignified and lawful manner, strictly abiding by the directives issued by the police and civil administration.

“Our emotions are genuine and heartfelt, but we must not allow grief to be exploited by mischievous elements who seek to disturb peace and public order. Kashmir has already endured immense pain over the decades. We cannot allow anyone to push our society towards instability or confrontation,” he emphasised.

He further stated that maintaining peace is both a moral responsibility and a tribute to the values of compassion and discipline that define the people of Kashmir. “Let our mourning reflect our strength, our unity, and our dignity. Let us honor the victims through prayers, patience and peaceful expression.”
