Srinagar: Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs) on Monday inaugurated the sale of high-quality vegetable seedlings under the Kitchen Garden Scheme at Lalmandi here.
The initiative aims to promote kitchen gardening and encourage self-sufficiency in fresh vegetables among urban and peri-urban households while supporting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
Officials said the department is providing quality planting material at subsidised rates so that residents can grow nutritious vegetables in their home gardens. The distribution and sale drive forms part of the ongoing Kitchen Garden Scheme, which seeks to boost household vegetable production and reduce dependence on market supplies.
Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Director stressed the importance of urban agriculture and healthy dietary habits, urging residents of Srinagar and adjoining areas to avail themselves of certified seedlings for timely planting.
Deputy Director Central Qazi Showkat, Seed Production Officer Ajaz Ahmad Mir and other senior officers of the Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department were present during the programme.
