Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a revenue official for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant for carrying out land demarcation in Reasi district.

An ACB spokesperson said a case (FIR No. 04/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered against Mohd Saleem Bandey, posted as Girdawar, Halqa Judda, Tehsil Arnas, District Reasi.

According to the Bureau, the accused had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from the complainant in return for demarcating his ancestral land, an official duty he was legally bound to perform without any payment. The complainant approached the ACB seeking action against the official.

Following receipt of the complaint, the Bureau conducted a discreet verification which confirmed the demand for a bribe. Consequently, a formal case was registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur and investigation was initiated.

A trap team headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police was constituted, which laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was arrested on the spot and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession.

The ACB also conducted a search at the accused’s residence at Sallian Talab, Udhampur, in the presence of a Magistrate as per legal procedure.

Officials said further investigation in the case is underway, adding that two FIRs were already registered against the accused at Police Station ACB Udhampur.
