Srinagar: The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM), Gulmarg, on Thursday successfully concluded its fourth 14-day Skiing and Snowboarding Course of the 2025–26 training season, with a graduation ceremony held at the institute’s premises.
The course drew enthusiastic participation from winter sports aspirants from different parts of the country, reaffirming the institute’s role in promoting professionalism and excellence in skiing and snowboarding training in India.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa (IAS), attended the function as the chief guest. A total of 101 candidates successfully completed the course, including 57 in the Basic category, 14 in Intermediate, 7 in Advanced and 23 in Snowboarding. The chief guest distributed certificates and prizes among the successful trainees.
Addressing the gathering, Sherpa congratulated the participants on completing the course and described IISM as the country’s premier winter sports training institute. He noted that admission to the courses remains highly competitive as registrations are conducted online and fill quickly due to high demand. He urged trainees to make the most of the opportunity and learn wholeheartedly from the institute’s experienced instructors.
He also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of youth from across India in winter sports and adventure activities, stating that institutes like IISM help nurture discipline, resilience and sporting talent among young people.
The successful conduct of the course, officials said, reflects the institute’s continued efforts to strengthen the winter sports culture in the country and provide structured, high-quality training. IISM Gulmarg continues to serve as a major hub for aspiring winter sports athletes while contributing to the growth of adventure tourism and professional training standards in India.
