PULWAMA: District Administration Pulwama today observed Safer Internet Day by organising an awareness workshop at Circuit House Pulwama under the theme “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI.”
The programme was held under the nationwide awareness campaign launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The workshop was attended by various officers and officials from all line departments of the district and aimed at strengthening cyber awareness and promoting a secure digital ecosystem across government offices.
During the session, Mujtaba Ahmad Banday, District Informatics Officer, Pulwama, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the importance of cyber hygiene, safe online practices, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. He sensitised participants about emerging cyber threats such as phishing, OTP and UPI frauds, fake customer care scams, malware, deepfake and AI-based voice scams, social media account hacking, online shopping frauds and digital arrest scams.
The resource person also elaborated on the growing misuse of AI technologies, privacy concerns, misinformation and deepfakes, while emphasizing practical mitigation strategies, verification techniques, and best security practices for digital users.
The workshop further highlighted the positive and people-centric applications of AI in sectors like governance, healthcare, education, agriculture and financial security, while underlining the need for ethical, inclusive and responsible adoption of emerging technologies.
On the occasion, participants were encouraged to take the online pledge for Safe and Responsible Use of AI and actively disseminate key learnings within their respective departments to ensure protection of data and the promotion of a secure digital environment in the district.
