Shopian: Police on Saturday seized nearly 700 litres of illegally stored kerosene oil and diesel in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and arrested a person allegedly involved in black marketing of subsidised fuel.
Acting on specific information about the illegal sale of subsidised kerosene in the black market, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib conducted a raid in the Imamsahib area. During the operation, approximately 700 litres of kerosene oil and diesel were recovered from a shop and taken into custody.
The accused was identified as Naseer Ahmad War, a resident of Arwani Bijbehara.
Police have registered a case under FIR No. 10/2026 under relevant provisions of law at Police Station Imamsahib. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused was involved in black marketing of subsidised kerosene oil. Police said the source of procurement is being probed and any official found facilitating the illegal trade will face strict legal action.
Police reiterated their commitment to act firmly against illegal activities and urged the public to cooperate and share information regarding criminal activities in their areas.
