Jammu: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday informed the House that ₹289.39 crore has been released during the current financial year 2025–26 under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for urgent flood restoration works across Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition, he said ₹100 crore—₹5 crore for each district—has been released under the Union Territory Capital Expenditure (UT Capex) Budget 2025–26 of the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) Department under the activity “Flood Relief Measures.”

The Deputy Chief Minister made the statement while replying, on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to a question raised by legislator Rajiv Jasrotia in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

He further told the Assembly that, so far, no funds have been released by the Government of India specifically for flood restoration works during the ongoing financial year.

However, based on the report of the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), the Government of India, under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), has allocated ₹1,431 crore to Jammu and Kashmir for flood restoration works, he added.

The Deputy CM also informed that the Jal Shakti Department has received funds for ongoing flood management projects under the Flood Management and Border Area Programme (FMBAP) during 2025–26. These include ₹164.35 lakh for Flood Management Works (JK-21, JK-22 and JK-23) and ₹6,041.25 lakh for the Comprehensive Flood Management of River Jhelum, Phase-II (Part-A).

The House was informed that the released funds are being utilised to address priority flood mitigation and restoration works across vulnerable areas of the Union Territory.
