Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has registered a case against two persons for allegedly securing admission to the MBBS Course–2023 at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, by using fake and forged certificates.

According to officials, the case stems from a credible input alleging that a resident of Ajas, Bandipora, gained admission to the MBBS programme by producing forged “Person with Disability” (PWD) and “Economically Weaker Section” (EWS) certificates, despite not suffering from any physical or mental disability. Acting on the information, the EOW, Srinagar, initiated a preliminary verification.

The verification reportedly revealed that the beneficiary, in connivance with another individual from Asham, Sumbal, Bandipora, procured a fake PWD certificate. Using the forged document, the accused allegedly secured selection for admission to the MBBS course at SKIMS.

The alleged acts prima facie attract cognisable offences under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged documents as genuine) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Consequently, a formal case has been registered at Police Station EOW, Srinagar, under the Crime Branch. Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the scam and identify any additional persons involved.
