Police arrest three drug peddlers; contraband recovered

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Sopore and Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson said on Friday.

According to the spokesperson, a police party during a naka checking at Aftab Mohallah, Warpora crossing in Sopore, intercepted two suspicious persons who attempted to flee but were apprehended. During the search, a charas-like substance was recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, and Aabid Hussain War, son of Mohammad Afzal War, both residents of Warpora, Sopore.

The spokesperson said that in a similar action in Awantipora, a police party during naka checking at Reshipora, led by the In-charge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of the SHO Police Station Awantipora, intercepted a suspicious person. During the search, 630 grams of charas powder-like substance were recovered from his possession. He was identified as Abdul Qayoom Beig, son of Ali Mohammad Beig, a resident of Beigpora.

“All the accused have been arrested and shifted to their respective police stations. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the concerned police stations, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify wider linkages involved,” the spokesperson added.
