JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday ordered a time-bound inquiry into the circulation of viral video allegedly from the Government Medical College (GMC) in Udhampur, officials said.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the probe was sanctioned a day after the videos surfaced on social media platforms, triggering widespread concern.
According to Government Order No. 67-JK(HME), of 2026 dated January 28, Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of GMC Jammu, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer.
He has been directed to conduct a detailed enquiry into the circumstances, sequence of events, and administrative as well as security lapses related to the incident(s) that led to the videos being circulated on January 27.
The order, issued by Secretary, mandates the inquiry officer to submit a comprehensive report within 15 days.
The nature of the videos has not been specified in the government communique, which refers only to “certain videos.”
The appointment of the inquiry officer comes amid growing demands for a probe into the incident that has put the spotlight on the functioning of the medical institution.
