Rural areas grope in darkness, surface communication disrupted

Srinagar: While the authorities are making claims of restoration of power supply, most of the rural areas, including Tangmarg, Pattan, Sopore, Baramulla, Kulgam, Shopian, Tral, Anantnag and other districts are still without electricity.

“We are groping in darkness, inverters have died, candles are on,” said a retied lecturer from Bandi Payeen, a village in Baramulla.

Same was the response from Shopian upper reaches. People in Kareva Manlo are missing the current from two days and identical stories are poring in from Kokernag and Pulwama areas.

Though the government has been making tall claims about restoration of road and power connectivity, the ground reality negates all these claims.

“I think, the government is being fed with wrong information. Ground realities contradict official claims. Let public representatives move to the ground and come up with the real picture,” said a local from Shangus.

About clearance of roads, people joke about government claims.

You haven’t been able to clear the most important Srinagar-Jammu highway, how you claim that internal roads are cleared, said a Tangmarg resident, wondering why the road remained blocked for umpteen hours from Magam to Tangmarg on 23 Jan.

Is this is how you are going to promote Gulmarg tourism? He questioned.
