Auqib Nabi Dar Becomes Costliest J&K Player at IPL Season 19 Mini Auction
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered a major milestone at the IPL Season 19 mini auction when fast bowler Auqib Nabi Dar secured a contract worth ₹8.40 crore with Delhi Capitals. The Baramulla native became one of the costliest domestic picks of the auction, drawing nationwide attention to cricket from the Union Territory.

The transaction marked a significant moment for the region, which has continued to send players into top-level competitions despite limited facilities and fewer platforms compared to traditional cricket centres. Auqib, aged 28, stood out as the leading name among players from Jammu and Kashmir present at the auction.

The right-arm seamer has built his career through steady performances in domestic tournaments. His control with the new ball and ability to adapt to different surfaces helped him become a regular figure in the state side across formats. His most productive campaign came during the latest Ranji Trophy season, where he claimed 44 dismissals and finished among the leading wicket-takers of the tournament.

His outings against stronger teams placed him on the radar of several franchises, leading to competitive bidding during the auction. Alongside his bowling output, Auqib has also added runs in the lower order on several occasions, increasing his overall value in squad planning.

Following the auction, celebrations were seen across Kashmir, with members of the local cricket fraternity viewing the development as a breakthrough moment. Many observers believe the deal will encourage young players in the Valley to pursue domestic cricket with long-term focus.

Delhi Capitals will now assess his role during the upcoming season as he prepares for his first IPL appearance. Previously, several players from Jammu and Kashmir — including Abdul Samad, Umran Malik, Rasikh Salam, Parvez Rasool, Yudhvir Singh, Mohammad Mudhasir and Manzoor Pandav have joined IPL teams, gaining exposure at the professional level.(KNS)
