As per the MHA guidelines, the entire Yatra corridor was strictly designated as a ‘No Drone Zone’, prohibiting any unmanned aerial vehicle activity to ensure foolproof security of the pilgrims and peaceful culmination of the Yatra.

Following the incident, FIR No. 26/2025, U/S 223 BNS was registered at Police Station Gund, and investigation was taken up. A team of technical experts conducted a detailed forensic examination of the seized drone to retrieve operational data and identify the operators involved in using the drone over no fly zone.

Based on the FSL report, Ganderbal Police identified the accused individuals — Owais Muneer Khan, son of Muneer Ahmad Khan of Sanat Nagar, Srinagar; and Farooz Ahmad Nengroo, son of Abdul Rashid Nengroo of Munwar-Abad, Khanyar, Srinagar, “who were responsible for flying the drone without any permission in the restricted zone”.

The official said that both the accused have been apprehended and produced before the court  and charge-sheeted in the case.
