Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday filed a charge-sheet against Dr. Bilquees Ara Sidique, then in-charge Scientist-C at the Pollution Control Committee (PCC) Srinagar, in a bribery case.

According to an ACB statement, the charge-sheet in FIR No. 02/2024 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was submitted before the Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar.

According to the ACB, the case was registered on January 8 this year following a written complaint alleging that the accused had demanded Rs 20,000 as bribe for issuing a ‘Consent to Operate’ certificate for a bakery unit located at Industrial Estate Khunmoh.

A trap was subsequently laid, and Sidique was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered on the spot and later chemical tests confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on her hands, the agency said.

The investigation established the commission of offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, following which sanction for prosecution was obtained from the government, the ACB added.

The matter has been listed for further hearing on February 12, 2025.
