Srinagar: Police in Kulgam have solved a theft case by arresting an accused person involved in the crime.
Investigating a complaint from one Abdul Hameed Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh of Rangrezpora Kulgam, concerning an incident of ATM card exchange and fraudulent cash withdrawal from his account at J&K Bank, Main Branch Kulgam, police with the help of CCTV footage and other digital evidences zeroed in on a suspect — Haroon Salam, son of Abdul Salam Nanda of Gasran, Kulgam, who brought to Police Station Kulgam for questioning.
During sustained questioning, the suspect admitted that on August 22, 2025, he had exchanged the ATM card of the victim at J&K Bank Main Branch Kulgam and later withdrew an amount of ₹1,30,200 using the exchanged card at various locations.
He further disclosed that he had concealed an amount of ₹7,000 to ₹10,000, along with two ATM cards at his residence. Upon his disclosure, cash amount of ₹7,600 along with two ATM cards (related to the case) were recovered.
The investigation of the case is still going on, police said.
