Deptts, civil society, institutions must sustain NMBA momentum: Sarmad Hafeez

JAMMU: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare department (SWD), Sarmad Hafeez, addressed a grand event at Convention Centre here today held to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), the nationwide campaign aimed at creating awareness against drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free society.

The event was organised by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Jammu.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner Secretary highlighted the significance of the Abhiyan in creating awareness against substance abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free society. He emphasized the collective responsibility of government departments, civil society, educational institutions and youth organizations in sustaining the momentum of the campaign.

Sarmad Hafeez lauded the efforts of the Directorate of Social Welfare and partner agencies in reaching out to communities across Jammu district through awareness drives, counselling sessions and rehabilitation initiatives. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening preventive and rehabilitative measures, ensuring that vulnerable sections receive timely support.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Social Welfare, Ranjeet Singh underlined the importance of community participation and youth engagement in combating the menace of drug addiction. He called upon stakeholders to continue working in synergy to achieve the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.

On the occasion, Cultural performances, awareness skits, signature campaign and testimonials from rehabilitated individuals were held, which added more spirit to the celebrations.

The participants on the occasion also took a Pledge to contribute towards building a healthier, drug-free Jammu and to carry forward the mission of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan with renewed vigour.

Special Secretary, Krishan Lal; Deputy Director, Raman Kumar; officers from the Social Welfare department, representatives of NGOs, students and members of the public were also present on the occasion.
