Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers, including a Nepali national, in Kulgam and Awantipora.
A police spokesperson said 1.100 kilograms of cannabis was recovered from the luggage compartment of a vehicle (JK07-5482) at Alstop Chowk, Mir Bazar, following which Lalit Giri, son of Narender Giri of Jajhar Kote, Nepal, and driver of the vehicle Asad Ullah, son of Mohammad Qasim of Kargil, were arrested and vehicle seized.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the Nepal national had entered India about six days ago, procured the contraband from an area in Shimla, and was enroute to Ladakh for drug peddling purposes.
At Laterbal near Gas Plant, Pampore, police arrested three drug peddlers — Ashfaq Ahmad Khanday, son of Ghulam Qadir of Wuyan; Muhammad Maqbool Rather, son of Abdul Ahad of Pustona Tral, and Abid Hussain Khan, son of Nazir Ahmad Khan of Larow, Tral, after 725 grams of ‘Bung Chura’ and 25 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from their possession.
Cases have been registered for investigation, police said.
