General Bipin Rawat Memorial KWPL 2025 concludes in Baramulla

Srinagar: The General Bipin Rawat Memorial Kashmir Women’s Premier League (KWPL) 2025 – Third Edition was hosted under the aegis of the Chinar Corps’s Dagger Division from 24 October to 07 November 2025, in collaboration with the Baramulla Cricket Forum.

The cricketing event was dedicated to Late General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, and aimed to encourage budding talent while highlighting the aspirations and participation of Kashmiri women in mainstream sports.

The KWPL 2025 was graced by military and civilian dignitaries, along with members of the Baramulla Cricket Forum and several prominent sports personalities. The event left an indelible mark among Kashmiri youth, particularly women, as it celebrated the prowess and determination of sportswomen from across the Valley.

The tournament was conducted under two categories — ‘Amateur’ and ‘Pro-League’ — with 10 and 8 teams participating respectively.

In the ‘Amateur’ category, the final match was played between Government Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, and Army Goodwill School, Uri, with Army Goodwill School, Uri, emerging as the winner.

In the ‘Pro-League’ category, Anantnag Rebels triumphed over Game Swingers, Baramulla to claim the title.

One of the participants shared her excitement, saying, “Playing in KWPL has been a dream come true. It has given me confidence and a sense of belonging in the world of sports.”

The Indian Women’s Cricket Team’s victory in the World Cup 2025 at Mumbai, coinciding with the KWPL, added to the fervour and enthusiasm of the tournament. A young spectator, Nazia, expressed her inspiration, saying, “I also want to play here, and one day I shall play for India, bring World Cup glory like our National Women’s Team, and make my country proud.”

GOC Dagger Division lauded the enthusiasm and performance of the players, stating, “The hard work and skill displayed by these young women reflect the true spirit of Kashmir — confident, aspiring, resilient, and progressive. This initiative stands as a beacon of women’s empowerment and inclusivity, and such tournaments pave the way for a vibrant and enthusiastic Kashmir.”
