Srinagar: National Conference leader and Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad has urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to address the age relaxation for Jammu and Kashmir combined competitive examination (CCE) aspirants.

In a statement here, the MP said that after receiving a representation from the CCE aspirants, he raised the demand for equality of the aspirants and has written a letter to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for consideration and redressal of the concern put forth by the aspirants.

“Request of open category candidates regarding their age relaxation in JKPSC combined competitive examination 2025 is very genuine. J&K is the only UT in our country which has such an age limit of 21-32 years. I hope you will personally look into it and issue necessary instructions,” Mian Altaf said he wrote in the letter addressed to the LG and the Chief Minister.

He said the aspirants of the J&K Combined Competitive Examination () in their representation have urged to restore the five-year age relaxation for open merit candidates in the upcoming JKAS 2025 examination, raising the upper age limit from 32 to 37 years.

“The aspirants said that candidates from the open merit category had been availing a five-year age relaxation since 2010, which was also extended during the JKAS 2018 and 2021 examinations. However, since the 2022 notification, aspirants said, the relaxation has been withdrawn, restricting the upper age limit for open merit candidates to 32 years.

“They argued that the change has excluded a large number of deserving and hardworking aspirants from participating in the exam”.

They also pointed out that several Indian states – including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha – have fixed the upper age limit for general category candidates between 37 and 44 years, with Odisha recently increasing it from 32 to 42.

Mian Altaf Ahmad has urged the LG  and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene and ensure that the grievances and concerns raised by the aspirants are resolved.

The MP also urged the Chief Secretary of J&K to look into the demand for its redressal.
