Delegations meet LG on language promotion, Nagar Kirtan plans

SRINAGAR: Several delegations today called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and discussed matters related to the promotion of linguistic, cultural, and spiritual heritage in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

A Sikh delegation led by S. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Sri Amritsar Sahib, and Shriman Mahant Manjeet Singh apprised the Lt Governor of the preparations for the Nagar Kirtan scheduled to commence from Gurdwara Mattan Sahib on November 15, 2025, as part of the observance of the 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The delegation also discussed measures for the promotion of Punjabi language in the UT.

In another meeting, Mahant Rohit Shastri, President, Kailakh Jyotish and Vedic Sansthan Trust, along with Trustee R.K. Chhibber, met the Lt Governor and projected issues pertaining to the promotion of Sanskrit language, recognition of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul as an “Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya” (Model Sanskrit College), and the establishment of “Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Divyang University.”

The Lt Governor assured both delegations of due consideration of their genuine concerns and reiterated the UT Administration’s commitment to promoting the rich linguistic, cultural, and spiritual traditions of Jammu and Kashmir.
