Srinagar: Police in Pulwama foiled a smuggling attempt by seizing 2.150 kilograms of poppy straw during a naka checking operation at Kisrigam, a police spokesperson informed Tuesday.
He said a police team recovered the contraband from the possession of one Nisar Ahmad Shaksaz, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Kisrigam, who was arrested and a case registered under section 8/15 of the NDPS Act for further investigation.
In Srinagar also, police during checking at Waniyar Noorbagh, intercepted an e-rikshaw (JK01AV-0593), and recovered 1500 grams of cannabis from it, police said.
Personal search of the driver yielded an additional 70 grams of cannabis, following which Waheed Ahmad Zaroo (driver), son of Mohammad Ramzan Zaroo of Gagarzoo Guzarbal Noorbagh was arrested, police said.
