Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday urged MLA Mir Saifullah to withdraw his Private Member’s Bill on regularisation of casual labourers and daily wagers, saying the issue is already being examined by a committee headed by the Chief Secretary.

Speaking in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to addressing the concerns of casual workers, but a proper solution requires complete and verified data.

“The matter is not being ignored. A committee led by the Chief Secretary is already reviewing it,” Omar Abdullah told the House. “We want to resolve this issue, but we first need accurate data about the number of workers and their service details before taking any decision.”

He said that while the government recognises the hardships faced by casual labourers and daily wagers, decisions on regularisation must be taken carefully to ensure fairness and transparency.

“I request Mir Saifullah to allow the committee to complete its work. Once the data is finalised, we will take appropriate steps to address the issue in a structured manner,” Omar added as per KNS.

The Chief Minister assured that the government is not closing its doors on the matter and that the ongoing review aims to find a long-term, practical solution for all affected workers across departments.(KNS)
