Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Shopian and Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson informed that Shakeel Ahmad Das of Waghama Bijbehara was arrested at Dangerpora Amshipora, after around 24 kgs of poppy straw stuffed in three bags was recovered from his vehicle (JK03-9305). While two of his accomplices managed to escape, Dar was arrested and his vehicle seized.
At Warpora-Galwanpora Crossing in Budgam, police recovered 376 grams of grinded cannabis-like substance and another 27 grams of the same substance in a disposable bag from an auto-rickshaw (JK01Q-7851). The auto driver Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh of Chodrybagh Sebdan, was arrested on the spot and the vehicle seized.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
