Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Wednesday decided not to attend the joint meeting of alliance legislators convened by the National Conference (NC) to discuss the strategy for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and the forthcoming session of the state legislature.

Sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that JKPCC president Tariq Hamid Karra held an emergency meeting with party legislators earlier in the day to deliberate on NC’s invitation.
However, it was decided that the Congress would stay away from the meeting for now.

“The party leadership has chosen to withhold participation until further consultations with the high command are completed,” sources said.

The NC meeting was scheduled to be held at Hotel Radisson in Rajbagh, Srinagar, where NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah had already arrived to chair the discussions with alliance legislators.

Confirming the development, JKPCC chief Tariq Hamid Karra told KNS that the Congress would not participate in the meeting called by the National Conference.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Farooq Abdullah had invited alliance legislators to chalk out a joint strategy for the Rajya Sabha polls and the upcoming legislative session.(KNS)
