The victims were immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Sopore, where doctors declared one of them — Bilal Ahmad (29), son of Wazir Ahmad, a resident of Saidpora Sopore — as brought dead.

The other injured, identified as Shahid Hilal (25), son of Hilal Ahmad Shah of Nadihal Rafiabad, sustained grievous injuries and was shifted to SKIMS Soura Srinagar for advanced medical care owing to his critical condition. However he too succumbed later.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The vehicle involved in the accident has been seized, and the driver, who had reportedly fled the scene after the collision, has also been arrested.

Separately, a 50-year-old woman from Pulwama sustained critical injuries after being hit by a car in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday evening.

News agency KNT reported that the accident occurred near the Dumping Yard in Awantipora when a car hit the woman who was attempting to cross the road. Locals and police immediately rushed to the spot and shifted her to the nearby medical facility, from where she was later brought to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.

The injured woman was identified as Mehmooda, wife of Mohammad Yaseen Dar, a resident of Dangerpora Pulwama.

Police have registered a case for investigation.
