SRINAGAR: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jammu & Kashmir branch, successfully conducted a comprehensive awareness programme on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for personnel of the 82nd Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at their Srinagar camp today.

The event underscored the vital importance of life-saving skills in emergency situations, empowering security forces with essential first aid knowledge to enhance safety and response capabilities in high-risk environments.

The programme was presided over by Honorary Treasurer, IRCS-J&K, G.A. Qureshi and Deputy Commandant, 82 BN CRPF, Srinagar, Munir Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Qureshi emphasized IRCS’s commitment to equipping citizens, especially frontline workers, with practical skills to save lives, stating, “In critical moments, timely CPR can make the difference between life and death. Such initiatives bridge the gap in emergency response across J&K.”

The awareness session on CPR was expertly imparted by Dr Shalindra Kour, a First Aid Trainer. She delivered hands-on demonstrations covering key techniques, including chest compressions and rescue breaths. Participants engaged in interactive drills using mannequins to practice scenarios such as cardiac arrest, trauma response, and fostering confidence in applying these skills during real-life emergencies.

The programme aligns with IRCS’s broader mission as an auxiliary to state authorities, focusing on disaster mitigation, health education, and humanitarian aid. By providing awareness to CRPF personnel, who often operate in challenging terrains, the initiative aims to build a resilient network of first responders capable of immediate intervention, potentially doubling survival rates in cardiac events.
