Srinagar: The Gen Bipin Rawat Fencing Championship, organized by the Vajr Division under Operation Sadbhavana in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Association (JKFA), concluded on Sunday at the Vajr Fencing Node, Maidan-e-Azam, Kupwara. The event witnessed an inspiring display of young talent, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Held from October 3 to 5, the championship brought together 136 fencers, including 26 women athletes, from eight districts across Jammu and Kashmir. Participants competed in 22 events across individual and team categories, reflecting the region’s growing enthusiasm and skill in fencing.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Commander, 28 Artillery Brigade, as the Chief Guest, who congratulated the participants for their commitment and spirited performances.
Prominent guests included Supriya Singh Chauhan, Secretary General of JKFA, and Rashid Ahmed, International Fencer and Referee. Both lauded the world-class infrastructure at the Vajr Fencing Node and encouraged the young athletes to pursue excellence with passion and national pride.
In the final results, Team Udhampur lifted the championship trophy, while Team Kupwara finished as the runner-up, earning praise for their competitive spirit and teamwork.
Dedicated to the memory of Late General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, the championship celebrated his ideals of leadership, discipline, and unity—values that continue to inspire the nation’s youth.
The event marked another milestone in the Indian Army’s ongoing efforts to empower the youth of Jammu and Kashmir through sports, fostering confidence, resilience, and camaraderie.
