The JKPCC organized an impressive tribute function at the Srinagar Party Office to mark the occasion. The event witnessed the participation of a large number of party workers from all districts, including members of frontal organizations.

JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, along with AICC General Secretary & CLP Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, and other senior party leaders and legislators—including former MLA Bashir Ahmad Magray, MLA Nizam Ud Din Bhat, Irfan Hafeez Lone, Surinder Singh Channi, Nissar Ahmad Mandoo, Shameema Raina, Abdul Raheem Rather, Abid Kashmiri, Irfan Naqib, Media Coordinator Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan), District Coordinators, and District Presidents of the Kashmir region—paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. They hailed their great contributions and selfless services towards the unity, prosperity, and inclusive development of India.

Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra said Mahatma Gandhi led India’s freedom struggle against the suppression and oppression unleashed by British colonial rule. His uncompromising fight and tireless non-violent efforts forced the British to leave, resulting in India achieving freedom from a regime that had entered the country under the garb of the East India Company.

Karra described Mahatma Gandhi as an ideologue and philosopher who made non-violence and peace his weapons to fight barbarism and oppression—values that will continue to guide people on the path of peace and harmony.

“On this Gandhi Jayanti, we are confronted with the harsh reality of communal politics unleashed by the BJP-RSS in the country, which Gandhi always considered a blot on the multiplicity and secular fabric of our great nation. We need to truly follow the path adopted by the Mahatma and defeat the designs of forces inimical to peace and harmony,” Karra said.

He also highlighted the great contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri towards inclusive development, noting that he will always be remembered as an agricultural reformist and a leader with courage and sagacity.

Later, the JKPCC President addressed a Block Presidents’ Conference of the Kashmir region, urging leaders to utilize their potential to further strengthen the organization and serve the people to the best of their ability. The aim of the conference was to rejuvenate block committees ahead of the launch of the Har Ghar Dastak, Ghar Ghar Dastak movement, reiterating the Congress Party’s strong demand for the restoration of statehood to J&K, along with the upcoming signature campaign against what it termed “vote theft” by the ECI-BJP collusion.

Speaking on the occasion, AICC General Secretary and CLP Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir highlighted Gandhi’s philosophy of peace and non-violence, saying that his contributions and supreme sacrifices for the nation would continue to inspire the world to follow the path of peace and non-violence.
