Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be convened here next month, as a notice issued by the J&K Assembly Secretariat said the LG has summoned the assembly session to meet on October 23 at 10 am.

“I, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in exercise of powers conferred upon me under Section 18(1) of the J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019, do hereby summon the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to meet at Srinagar on Thursday, the 23rd October, 2025 at 10.00 AM,” the LG said in an order.

The Assembly Secretariat urged the members to “make it convenient to attend the session of the legislative assembly on the appointed date, time and place”.

The decision follows a cabinet recommendation that had initially suggested October 13 as the start date; however, the officials said, the later date allows legislators more time to submit questions to the Assembly Secretariat.

The last full session was held in Jammu during March–April, while a special sitting in July condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The Legislative Assembly Secretariat has issued guidelines for the session, allowing each MLA to submit 10 questions—five starred and five unstarred—along with two resolutions and one bill. The deadlines are October 4 for questions and bills, and October 7 for resolutions.

Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, for sanctioning the construction of 5,061 houses which were damaged due to the recent natural calamities across rural areas of J&K.

The Centre has sanctioned the construction of over 5,000 houses which were damaged in the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union territory’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Saturday.

According to an official press release, Sinha expressed gratitude to the central government for sanctioning the construction of 5,061 houses, saying it would bring back safety and stability in the lives of the affected families.

“Grateful to Hon’ble PM Shri @Narendramodi Ji & Hon’ble Union Minister of Rural Development, Shri @ChouhanShivraj Ji for sanctioning the construction of 5,061 houses which were damaged due to the recent natural calamities across rural areas of J&K,” the LG said on X.

He said this approval under a special project of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin will bring back safety and stability in the lives of thousands of households.

“A new home will enable the families to regain the economic stability significantly improving the family’s well-being,” he added.

It being the World Tourism Day, LG on Saturday appealed to the people of the country to visit Jammu and Kashmir, saying the ‘crown jewel of India’ is a cherished year-round destination that offers breathtaking beauty and unmatched hospitality.

The LG’s appeal comes amidst a bleak tourism season in J&K.

“On World Tourism Day, I invite you all to visit Jammu and Kashmir. Blessed with stunning landscapes, a rich cultural heritage & unmatched hospitality, the crown jewel of India is a cherished year-round destination, offering breathtaking beauty & spiritual experience,” the LG said in a post on X.

Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a sluggish tourism season in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.
