Srinagar: A 12-year-old schoolgirl died while four others were injured in a road accident in the Jogi Lanker area of Rainawari on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when a vehicle lost control and rammed into pedestrians, causing widespread panic in the densely populated area.
Police officials identified the vehicle involved in the accident as an eco van (DLCAS 1744). The van was being driven by a local of Kalwal Mohalla, Rainawari.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a narrow lane, leading to the mishap.
The deceased was identified as a 12-year-old schoolgirl from Gurpora locality. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after being shifted to a hospital.
Hospital sources confirmed that all four injured persons were adults. Two of them were shifted to SMHS Hospital, while one critically injured victim was referred to SKIMS Soura. Another injured individual is currently under treatment at JLNM Hospital in Rainawari.
Police said the driver has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered for investigation. (KNT)
