Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday urged the youth to act as powerful agents of change by leveraging their energy, discipline, perseverance and creativity.
He made these remarks as he attended the closing ceremony of Jashn-e-Dal, a Water Sports event organized by Jammu & Kashmir Police, at Dal Lake, Srinagar.
In his address, the LG congratulated the police for playing a “significant role in nation-building, upholding rule of law, ensuring public safety and order and fighting terrorism”.
“Jammu & Kashmir Police’s proactive engagement with communities and empowerment of youth is laudable. It has been working with integrity and dedication to protect the nation’s internal security,” the LG said.
He also commended the J&K Police for organising the annual sporting tournament at Dal lake with the main objective of youth engagement and to foster unity, harmony and camaraderie among athletes.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police is serving as a guardian for the youth of Jammu & Kashmir. It is committed to provide opportunities, resources, support, and mentorship to the youth, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and inclusive development. Events like Jashn-e-Dal, Pedal for Peace, and various marathons, football, and cricket tournaments are more than just sports activities. Each tournament is a symbol of a new and positive chapter for our youth,” the LG said.
He called upon the athletes to inspire young people to pursue their goals and stay away from drug menace.
“Sports is a unifying force. I want our youth to act as powerful agents of change by leveraging their energy, discipline, perseverance and creativity,” he said.
The LG encouraged the youth to take an active role in community development, nation-building, and addressing climate change.
He said the public participation in preserving lakes, rivers, and natural resources has shown positive results over the past few years. This change is a reminder to the young generation that ponds, rivers, lakes are integral part of our life and necessary for our existence, the Lieutenant Governor further said.
The LG also called upon the youth to lead the community service campaign during the ‘Sewa Parv’ starting from September 17th, 2025.
He emphasized that the young volunteers, along with J&K Police, should be ready for community initiatives like cleanliness campaign, tree plantation program, and helping the weaker sections of the society.
At the closing ceremony, the LG took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and also felicitated the winners of Jashn-e-Dal.
The three-day event witnessed the participation of around 750 athletes in different water sports disciplines.
DGP, Nalin Prabhat; S.J.M. Gillani, Special DG Coordination PHQ; ADGP Armed, Anand Jain; senior officials of police and civil administration; members of various water sports associations and sports clubs; prominent sports personalities, and youth in large numbers attended the closing ceremony.
