Srinagar: The District Administration Budgam on Thursday reported encouraging developments after the breach on the Jhelum embankment at Zoonipora, which had triggered flooding in several villages.
Officials said early signs of reverse flow have been observed at the breach site, with water beginning to flow back into the Jhelum. “This positive trend is further substantiated by the significant reduction in water levels in the inundated villages, while outpouring towards downstream areas has also decreased,” the administration said in a statement.
Relief operations are continuing with priority being given to the restoration of essential services, particularly safe drinking water and electricity in the affected villages. Restoration works and damage assessments are expected to follow once the situation stabilizes.
“The District Administration Budgam remains committed to the safety and relief of all affected communities,” the communiqué added.
