Srinagar: Police in Awantipora claimed to have solved a hit-and-run case within hours by arresting an accused person; the involved vehicle was also seized.
A road accident was reported at Chersoo, wherein an unknown vehicle hit and injured a pedestrian, Rafiq, wife of Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Sail Awantipora. The injured woman was taken to a nearby hospital and subsequently referred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for further treatment.
A case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Awantipora and during investigation, police were successful in arresting the accused driver after hectic efforts within hours of the incident, a police spokesperson said.
He identified the accused as Jalal-ud-din Bhat, son of Lal Bhat of Paniwa Bugam Kulgam. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle (JK18C-7213) involved in the accident has also been seized.
