Srinagar: After a week-long disruption caused by heavy rainfall, floods, and gusty winds that left several school buildings submerged or damaged, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Thursday announced the reopening of all government and private schools in the Valley from Monday, September 8.
According to an order, the decision was taken after an assessment of the prevailing situation. The Directorate said it would be the responsibility of school authorities to ensure that campuses are safe and ready for students.
“It shall be incumbent upon all Heads of Institutions (HoIs) and staff to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitisation of classrooms and school premises in advance so that classwork is conducted in a safe, clean, and hassle-free environment,” the order reads.
The directive comes in the aftermath of last week’s inclement weather, which triggered widespread flooding and caused significant damage to infrastructure across Kashmir. While several school buildings were inundated, others sustained structural damage.
Officials said the reopening decision was taken after reviewing inputs from the field, adding that safety inspections will be carried out before September 8. (KNS)
